Hercules Belgian tapestry is inspired by a mythological series of pictures that was ordered by King Jean III from Portugal. Hercules is the Latin name for the mythical Greek hero Heracles, son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmena. He was made to perform twelve great tasks, called The Twelve Labors of Hercules, to cleanse himself.
